DESCRIPTION: EPW - N. Fortin a Paris, single hand oignon style verge fusee, 59mm, gilt brass OF consular case with classical scene representing the Triumph of Galatea depicting a woman riding at sea within a large conch shell pulled by a pair of dolphins, engraved gilt brass dial with two birds of prey above center, raised enamel numeral plaques and quarter-hour chapter, KW through center of dial, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled two-footed balance bridge having two birds of prey near center, no visible s#. Nicolas Fortin of Paris was active in the early part of the 18th century and was father to noted clockmaker Augustin Fortin.
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, ticking in the dial down position but stops when turned to dial up, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some typical scratches and fine scratches; dial with patched chips tight along the perimeter edge of the 12, 1 and 5 plaques, hls to 6 plaque; excellent hand; case with loose hinge pin that comes out easily and with an additional small pin included that is currently taped to crystal, case occasionally remains snapped closed when shut but also sometimes popping back open, case shows medium wear, no dents, engraving detail with moderate reduction, gilt loss throughout raised portions of design; brassy round bow moving freely within larger pendant piercing; domed glass crystal with some mild to moderate edge chips.
